I’m a big fan of Pine’s and he’s makes a great Steve Trevor. If you’re not familiar with his acting resume, please read my 8 Under the Radar Chris Pine Films You Need to See post, as an introductory course (coming soon). It was recently announced that Chris Pine has returned for Wonder Woman 2 as Steve Trevor. Previously, Pine had signed on for a multi-picture deal, so that means the character is set to appear in more than one film.
First up, a quick refresher on who Steve Trevor is:
Steve Trevor is Wonder Woman’s primary love interest, and first appeared in All Star Comics #8 back in December 1941/January 1942. He was originally introduced by Wonder Woman’s creator William Moulton Marston as a U.S. military intelligence officer who became stranded on Wonder Woman’s homeland Paradise Island.
Though he was a military man, the storylines featuring Steve and Wonder Woman involved inversions of the damsel in distress trope where Steve was rescued by Wonder Woman. During the ’70s and up to the ’90s, his character was either sidelined or absent altogether from the storylines which favored more fantasy and action-adventure stories for Wonder Woman in lieu of any romantic interests.
Current portrayals, particularly in the New 52, involve him being a senior government agent and super spy who is the United States’ liaison to the Justice League due to his close connection to Wonder Woman. In 2013, Steve became a member of the new incarnation of the Justice League of America. Keeping the character’s comic book history in mind and thinking about his appearances in other media, let’s look at the facts:
And welcome back to Diving Into Cosmetics, the column in which I write about my experiences with makeup. It’s been a while since I’ve written about my adventures, but have no fear there will be more to come. Let’s start this first entry of 2016 with some awesome geek related news!
Wonder Woman and Star Trek are getting cosmetic lines!
In the past, Wonder Woman has had lines before but this time it’s Walgreens who’ll be debuting a new and inexpensive line. The news comes to us via a Twitter post by comic book artist and writer Ming Doyle who attended WonderCon last week and posted the following tweet:
OMG! I’m definitely getting the lipstick, nail polish, and of course the makeup tote! According to the pic, the line will be available in May.
We’ll have to wait a bit longer for MAC cosmetics’ Star Trek’s line though.
In honor of the series 50th anniversary, MAC cosmetics will launch a 25-piece special deco collection that will feature lipstick, eyeshadow, nail polish and other products inspired by Deanna Troi, Uhura, Seven of Nine and Vina the Orion slave girl. According to Robot 6 (a blog on CBR.com), the collection will debut first on July 21st at the MAC Cosmetics store in the Gaslamp Quarter at San Diego Comic-Con before arriving online on Aug. 25 and in stores on Sept. 1.
From the character pictures, we can kinda tell what the makeup colors will be. Though it’s a bit of a wait, my excitement balances out my anticipation. I’m looking forward to both of these collections.
2016 marks the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman. Next week for the first time, she’ll appear on the big screen in a live action film. In honor of her 75th year, I’ve created an infographic via Piktochart.com that features 8 facts about the amazing amazon.
