Another rocky year is close to an end and once again I’m here to showcase my year in books. Like so many of you, I’ve had a stressful year but I was able to find some solace in reading books. In recent years, I’ve scaled back my reading goals and this year was the same, I only wanted to read 30 books for the year. But once again I read more than my goal- I read 54 books for the year. So let’s take a look shall we?
As you can see the usual suspects are there: graphic novels, trades, comics, and Star Wars related fare. But I also added new things such as a manga series I started reading-Sue & Tai-Chan. It’s about an elder cat who has to adjust to living with a kitten. It’s adorable and I’m looking forward to reading the upcoming volumes 4 & 5 when they arrive in 2022.
Speaking of next year, I’m looking forward to reading the final book in the One of Us is Lying trilogy by Karen M. McManus. It’ll be out next year. I’ve enjoyed reading all of McManus’s titles that she’s published. This year I read three of her books: One of Us Is Next (the sequel to One of Us Is Lying), Two Can Keep A Secret, and The Cousins. I’m about to start her latest book that came out last month: You’ll Be the Death of Me, in addition to reading another of her upcoming books-Nothing More to Tell which will be out next year in August.
Since we’re talking about series, let me mention the Twisted Tales Series which is Disney’s animated films version of Marvel’s What If? It takes the the premise of some of the Mouse’s popular tales like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc. and turns them on their sides. Sometimes the twist takes place during the main events of the story, other times it takes place years after. What results is mostly a good take on the original tale. This year I read the twisted tales of Wendy Darling and co. (Straight On Till Morning) and Alice in Wonderland (Unbirthday). Next year I’ll keep traveling through the House of Mouse’s multiverse as read the latest entries in the Twisted Tales series.
Let’s take it back to my regulars on the list-graphic novels and Star Wars. So I revisited some books that I’ve read previously, while also reading new entries that were of the superhero, biographical, and classic book types. Star Wars I read the escapades of Padme, Leia, and Kanan, while finding Lost Stars and reading from a Certain Point of View as the Empire Strikes Back. This year I also read the memoir of comedian and musician Lane Moore and the biographies of the late Debbie Reynolds and Cicely Tyson.
So that’s about it. If you want to take a closer look at my year in books please click here. Before I go here are my questions for you dear readers:
How many books did you read this year? If you didn’t read any that’s okay too!
What was format were the books in-were they all print or a mixture of print, digital, audiobook?
Will you be reading next year? If so do you have a goal set?
And with that I’ll leave you for now. I wish you a safe and Happy Holidays. May 2022 be a great year for you. May you shake off the toxic individuals in your life, may you have the love of Gomez and Mortica (if that’s what you want), may you be confident and thrive in all that you do, and most of all be healthy in mind, body and spirit.
Until next time!
