Top 5: The films I’m looking forward to seeing this year.

With the new year comes new films and on this fifth night of 2015, here are the top five films that I’m looking forward to.

1. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

When the first Star Wars film came out, I wasn’t even born yet, but when I first saw the  original trilogy (not the edited George Lucas version), I became a fan. The origin trilogy which told the story of Anakin Skywalker’s rise and fall was a fun ride, I didn’t enjoy the films as much as the original trilogy, but watching the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars helped me find a place for them in my heart.

Now comes the first installment about what happens after The Return of the Jedi, and I’m so stoked about this film. I can’t wait to see the characters-new and old-interact with each other! I mean who doesn’t want to see Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C3PO, and R2D2 together again? I’m also pleased with the diverse casting, and it keeps on coming with today’s earlier announcement of ‘The Raid’ actors Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, and Cecep Ali Rahman joining the cast.

2. Jurassic World

I’ve always wanted to see how the park would look if John Hammond’s dream had come to fruition and now with this fourth film in the Jurassic Park franchise I will.  Plus the terror of a hybrid dinosaur roaming the park and causing chaos? Star Lord riding a motorcycle through the jungle of the pack with a pack of raptors? Oh hell yeah, I’m there!

3. Avengers: Age of Ultron

I’m gonna be honest, I wasn’t really excited when the trailer first came out. “Are you serious?” some of you may be asking. Yes I’m serious. Don’t get me wrong, I was happy about the film, but I know what to expect from Marvel so I was like “That’s cool.”

Plus, I wanted my Black Panther movie and after watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier-which I loved-I decided to go on a Marvel boycott.  Until they made it official that Black Panther was happening, I wasn’t going to see anymore of their films, and I didn’t see Guardians of the Galaxy when it came out. Flash forward to that secret meeting in California and lo and behold we’re getting a Black Panther film! So now I will go see Age of Ultron and I’ll see Guardians of the Galaxy when it hits Netflix.

Age of Ultron looks great. I think the thing that I’m looking forward to the most about the film is Ultron himself. James Spader-whom I loved in The Practice and its spin off Boston Legal-is a perfect fit for the robotic villain. I’m also hoping to see any trails which lead to Wakanda in the film because rumor has it that Andy Serkis-who’s also in Star Wars-is Ulysses Claw in the film, and Claw is one of the Black Panther’s enemies.

4. Mad Max: Fury Road

I’ve never seen the original Max Fury or its sequels and after watching the trailer for the latest installment in the series, my curiosity is intrigued. Let’s face it, this film looks amazing! A post-apocalyptic desert world filled with crazies? And the cinematography! Oh my goodness it’s beautiful! I’m definitely looking forward to this.

5. Terminator: Genysis

I’ve enjoyed every single Terminator film in the franchise and though I’m somewhat iffy about this addition, I’m still looking forward to it. Most of my reasoning is the nostalgia factor. Who doesn’t enjoy watching Arnold Schwarzenegger kick some ass? The story has changed a bit and it does make me curious as to what will happen. I wonder if it will show what the other films haven’t-how John Connor defeats Skynet?
