Reading Octavia Butler

I was introduced to Octavia Butler via the amazing radio/podcast the Black Tribbles and I’m so glad that I’ve added her stories to my reading list.

Not only is she one of my favorite authors, she’s also an inspiration to me being a woman writer and she was (she passed away in 2006) one of the few African-American sci-fi writers.  My first book was Bloodchild and other Stories and if you’re hesitant to reading one of her novels, start with this book. It contains five amazing short stories beginning with Bloodchild.  Besides, Bloodchild, Near of Kin, and Speech Sounds were my favorite-with Near of Kin being my favorite out of the three.

I’m currently on the last book in the Lilith’s Brood aka  Xenogenesis trilogy, Imago. I’ve also began reading Kindred.  If you’re on Goodreads, The Blerd Book Club is currently in the midst of reading the Patternist series.  I’m hoping to read this series as well.
